Handicap + studie, the Dutch expert centre for studying with disabilities, organises an international conference in cooperation with Utrecht University, HU University of Applied Sciences and the LINK network on Monday 19 and Tuesday 20 November 2018. The title of the conference is 'Higher education for students with disabilities: ensuring compliance with the UN Convention'.
Higher education for students with disabilities: ensuring compliance with the UN Convention
The UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities entered into force in the Netherlands on 14 July 2016. Institutions in higher education are working on the implementation of this treaty. Held in the beautiful historical city of Utrecht, the conference explores possibilities to make education more inclusive, featuring a programme full of inspiring speakers, workshops and networking opportunities.
Handicap + studie, the Dutch expert centre for studying with disabilities, supports educational institutions in making their education more inclusive for students with a disability. LINK is a network of organisations, educational institutions, disability professionals, academics, students and interested individuals from all over Europe who share the same ultimate goal: the full inclusion of students with a disability in higher education.
Monday 19 and Tuesday 20 November 2018. The conference starts at 10.00 on 19 November and ends at 13.00 on 20 November.

On both days we present keynotes and subsessions.
On Monday 19th we a panel of experts will discuss major issues. Utrecht University, HU University of Applied Sciences and probably some more institutions will officially sign the Declaration of intent UN Convention higher education.
On Tuesday 20th there will be a final wrap up and discussion so that everybody will go home with new inspiration!

The UN Convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities is currently being implemented by institutions in all countries that have ratified the convention. The three main principles of the convention are inclusion, full participation and autonomy, and the key motto is: 'Nothing about us, without us'. The higher education sector is experiencing a growing demand for innovation and flexibility. Sharing solutions will have a positive impact on the quality and inclusiveness of higher education institutions, especially for students with a disability.
